This is the first step in your Job Search schedule. The covering letter is a personalised communication to your employer that -

  • Indicates your interest in applying for Job position
  • Projects you as the right candidate for the job.

Before you get down to writing the letter ,ensure you have collected information on

  • Job profile
  • Organisation profile
  • Contact person at the organization


The letter should be restricted to one page and can be broken into three segments.

  • Reference of the post applied for.
  • 2 or 3 line summary of your profile (working experience & educational details )
  • The purpose of the last few lines is to create intent for the employer to look into the resume for further details.
